Amidst the roaring sea, the beautiful banyans, and immaculate Lilly beds, at the newly minted, truly grand Grand Hyatt Goa; Indian Academy of Laser Dentistry unveiled its true potential. At its 5th International Conference –‘Surf, Sand and Science – Your Tryst With Technology’ in truly grand fashion, new and emerging trends in Lasers, Implants, and minimally invasive dentistry were showcased discussed and demystified by the Gurus of the dental world.
Well attended by both dentists and sponsors, young technology toting dentists lapped up the lectures, training and hands-on courses conducted by eminent international and national leaders of Laser and Implant dentistry.The conference showcased a glittering array of International and National speakers like Dr. Donald Coluzzi, Dr. Steven Parker, Dr. Ralf Borchers, Dr. Ophir Fromovich and Dr. Shelly Kassam. The running theme through the deliberations was the necessity of education and understanding of complex laser physics to enable ease of use as remarked upon by Dr. Steven Parker –“may see it as magical intervention, use with caution as they are adjunctive instruments”; “Lasers only make good clinicians better.” The sponsors were thrilled to showcase their products as they found their niche markets, interested dentists and fabulous quality of scientific presentations.
The conference reached its peak power with the unveiling of the first issue of International Journal of Laser Dentistry by the President, Dental Council of India – Dr. Dibyendu Mazumder, The honourable Health Minister of Goa –
Mr. Vishwajeet Rane and President, IALD – Dr. Suchetan Pradhan. Dr. Mazumder in his address to the delegates reiterated the need to introduce Laser Dentistry as a part of the dental curriculum at the under-graduate level. Over 30 delegates received their Diploma in Laser Dentistry from Dr Mazumder and Mr. Vishwajeet Rane.
The evening highlighted a glittering banquet with the theme of Goan Carnival and featured an energetic live musical performance byDr. Varun Carvalho.
Dr Suchetan Pradhan and his team’s labour of love and months of hard work, meticulous planning and attention to details paid off, with the conference being declared a resounding success with over 300 delegates.
A One Day Intensive Scientific Session cum workshop “Tomorrow’s dentistry today” was conducted at Chennai, on April 10th 2011 at the Hotel Rain tree.
This event was presided over by, Padma Shri Prof. Dr. Mayil Vahanan Natarajan, vice Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University as Chief Guest and Mr. His Excellency Chanchai Charanvatnakit (Consular General of Kingdom of Thailand in Chennai.) was the guest of honour. Several principals of Dental Colleges in and around Chennai were also present.
This Scientific session was attended by around 180 Participants who were Professors, Faculty, Senior Dentists & PG Student from Tamil Nadu and adjoining states.
This workshop was enriched by the presence of Dr. Suchetan Pradhan and Dr Ralf Borchers, who imparted their vast experiences in the Lecture session followed by live demonstration on patients using various wavelengths of lasers.
The highlight of the day was the hands-on program attended by around 90 delegates who had an opportunity to experience different wavelength of dental lasers, guided by Diplomates of the IALD.
This program was well appreciated by all the participants including senior teachers and professors.
This was the first such program conducted in Chennai & we are sure we will go a long way in establishing the science of laser dentistry in Tamil Nadu and adjoining states.
